The Spaniel Cocker

CH.I.T. GELINOTE DES TERRES FROIDES

The Cocker, it's before every thing else, two long ears and this look that make you like an ice cream. It's also a dog with a lot of character, courageous, clever like a donkey, close its owners. All theses qualities are inherited from its ancestors, selected for hunting in the brushwood, very close to the gunner. The same qualities are find at home again, with a dog which shares totally its owners life, not at all breaking out, and also keeps an important place in the family by intelligence and personality.

CH T CS ELITE : BOUFFADOU DES TERRES FROIDES

If the cocker is very known like a pet dog, it's at first a hunting dog, of English origins.

The selection for competitions have made that the British have separated the breeed in two lines, to become the most possible competitive at a high level. A line for the show, and an other line for hunting and field trial.

If the standard of the breed describes an ideal dog, both beautiful and good hunter, in fact, this dog doesn't exist any more in England.

Most of the show dogs have lost their temperament on the ground, and very often the qualities who makes the cocker an outstanding family dog.

In the mean time, the English have selected their working cockers exclusively on the hunting abilities. They have dogs very busy but they don't look like cockers.

Typical Example of Hunting English Cocker

Since the beginning, "LES TERRES FROIDES" have bred for dual purpose spaniels, looking for dogs able to win equally in a show ring or in the field, and outstanding companions at home.Wherever their qualities for competition, an unintelligent or irksome to live don't reproduce at home.

The health is a very important aspect, nothing is hidden about the health problems of the line, and as soon as we know more about hereditary diseases, the selection is more and more servere on the choice of the breeding stock.
